Webometrics 2024: VNU features among Asia’s top 100 universities in Visibility

On July 7, 2023, Cybermetrics Labs (under the Spanish National Research Council) announced the second Webometrics rankings of 2024. Accordingly, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) ranked 771st among the world’s top universities and maintained its Visibility in Top 100 leading educational institutions in Asia.

In this ranking, VNU maintained its top position among Vietnamese higher education institutions, ranked 169th in Asia and 15th in Southeast Asia. Thus, VNU has maintained its Visibility position among the world’s top 800 (current position is 727) and increased its Transparency position (current position is 1170) for the 3rd consecutive year.

Webometrics is an automated ranking that assesses the digitalization and influence of a higher education institution’s academic resources based on the indicators of the impact of its website systems and online information (Visibility or Impact), openness of its academic resources on Google Scholar (Openness) and scientific citations on the Scopus database (Excellence).

In this edition, Webometrics maintained the same ranking methodology as in January 2021. Specifically, the Visibility has the highest weight (50%), followed by the Excellence (40%) and the Transparency (10%). The Transparency criterion has continued to expand the number of scientist records reviewed and evaluated on the Google Scholar database up to 290 records (Top 21-310). Also in this ranking period, the Visibility had a small change in data sources as Webometrics only used data from Majestics instead of the previous two data sources.
