On February 5, 2024, Cybermetrics Labs (under the Spanish National Research Council) announced its first Webometrics edition of 2024. Accordingly, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) enhanced its position in Top 700 globally and featured among the world’s Top 500 for the first time by Impact (ranked 495th).
In this edition, VNU continued to maintain its top position in Vietnam and advanced in the world universities ranking (from 671st to 649th) and in the regional universities ranking (placed at the 11th position in Southeast Asia – up 1 place compared to the previous period, and ranked 140th in Asia – up 27 places compared to the previous period).
The Webometrics list, published twice a year, assesses the digitalization capacity and impact of higher education institutions’ academic resources based on the volume of the website content, the visibility and impact of their website publications, the openness of academic resources on Google Scholar, and the number of citations they received on the Scopus database.
In this edition, Webometrics maintained the January 2021’s ranking method. Specifically, the “Presence” indicator was discontinued; “Visibility” has the highest weight of 50%, “Excellence” of 40% and “Transparency” of 10%. Notably, this edition Transparency evaluated an expanded number of cited authors on Google Scholar up to 290 (top 21-310).
Also in this edition, that VNU featured among the world’s Top 500 by Impact showed a strong and sustainable influence of VNU’s digital resources and academic reputation on the educational community as well as the entire society.
