On August 26, 2024, the International School – Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-IS) organized an English placement test for new students of Cohort K23. The purpose of the test is to determine English level of the new students as a basis for placing them in appropriate English classes. New students participating in this test will be tested on three main skills including listening comprehension, reading comprehension and writing within nearly three hours. After the results are announced, students with the same level will be placed in the same class.

After completing the exam, the new students left with a more relaxed and less anxious mood. As one of the new students majoring in International Business, Le Minh Anh said that she decided to choose the International School with the hope that after 4 years she would become a confident person with the knowledge and skills equipped. Evaluating the placement test, Minh Anh said that the test was suitably designed and classifiable from foundational to advanced level. She was still able to complete the test. “I couldn’t complete some questions in some parts so I had to skip it. However, I didn’t feel sad, I know my weaknesses so I can make more efforts,” she said.

Putting new students of the same level together when studying the English Foundation Program is quite important, helping them to be confident and integrated in the learning process with their classmates in the higher education environment, and at the same time helping the foreign language teaching staff apply the most appropriate teaching methods and approaches for each level of different classes. This approach helps students improve their ability to use English ​​in learning and communications, creating a solid foundation when they enter specialized subjects taught entirely in English ​​later.

This test helps them to recognize their current English proficiency, their weaknesses and difficulties so that they can continue to strive in the coming time.
