Program Introduction


I. OVERVIEW
The Visiting Scholar Program of the International School – VNU was established with the goal of promoting the experience, capacity, and wisdom of international scholars working at prestigious universities and research institutions from different parts of the world to contribute to Vietnam’s socio-economic development. The program also helps in strengthening the international integration index of VNU in general and the International School in particular, creating motivation and environment for international training and research, and improving the ability of its faculties, receiving teaching transfer technology, advanced research, university management of foreign countries, increase the proportion of lecturers from prestigious foreign universities.

II. PURPOSE
The program was established with the aim of promoting the experience, capacity and intelligence of scholars working at prestigious universities and research institutions in the world to contribute to the development of the socio-economic development of the country. This purpose will be accomplished through three specific objectives as follows:
– Attracting and building a network of scholars with international vision and qualifications, working as human resource to promote the quality of training and scientific research at the International School in particular and VNU in general.
– Strengthening scholar diplomatic channels, connect with other regional and international research networks, and support lecturers, staff and students to have the opportunity to interact with international academic research activities.
– Promoting the transfer of teaching technology, advanced research, and university administration from abroad.

III. ORIENTATION OF ACTIVITIES
The program is expected to focus on the following four main groups of activities:

1. Collaborative teaching
Scholars of the Program participate in teaching the entire duration of a module or collaborate with International School lecturers in training programs implemented at the School. The teaching organization is carried out with the aim of encouraging lecturers to participate in preparing lectures, teaching and guiding students. During this process, students and lecturers of the International School will experience new working methods and approaches currently being applied at prestigious overseas institutions.
To maximize the effectiveness of this activity, the scholars will be given priority to teaching subjects that are new or require updating working methods, new knowledge on a regular basis or modules which still lacks a source of highly qualified lecturers, meeting the requirements of the module and the Program.

2. Scientific research cooperation
The program will connect scholars with research groups of the International School for joint research and co-publishing articles published in ISI, Scopus journals. This activity will contribute to increase the number and quality of research groups of the School. Lecturers of the International School will have the opportunity to access the latest research directions, with modern and advanced methods and approaches, and gain more experience not only in research but also in publishing international articles. Scholars will also act as a bridge between the International School and major research projects with international funding: Scholars participating in the Program will be the project manager or co-chair, and the International School will be the chair. The program will organize international conferences, seminars, workshops, creating opportunities for scholars participating in the program as well as scholars, lecturers, researchers in related fields to share knowledge and experience, enhancing exchanges, mutual understanding and cooperation opportunities among scholars.

3. Technology transfer cooperation
Technology transfer activities in the Program are conducted by inviting scholars to cooperate in developing new lectures, training programs, and training disciplines; design consultancy for laboratories, high-tech classrooms; conducting seminars, training programs for lecturers, especially young lecturers using high technology and modern techniques in teaching and research; participate in guiding or co-instructing student and scientific research.

4. Other cooperation activities
The program also aims to promote information resources and relationships with international scholars to promote student exchange: find internship opportunities/exchange scholarships for students and attract international students to study short-term/long-term at the School.
