Prof. DSc. Le Thi Hoai An was born in Duc Bong Commune, Vu Quang District, Ha Tinh Province. She moved to France in 1991 as part of a cooperation program between Joseph Fourier Grenoble University 1 and Hanoi National University of Education, where she graduated as valedictorian in Mathematics in 1980 and was retained as a lecturer.
She obtained her Doctorate in Optimization and Operations Studies in 1994 and her Doctor of Science degree in 1997 from the National Academy of Applied Sciences Rouen (INSA Rouen). In September, 1998 she was appointed Associate Professor of Mathematics at the Faculty of Mathematical Technology at the same Academy. In September, 2003 she was appointed Professor of Computer Science at the University of Metz (changed its name to University of Lorraine since 2012). Since 2012 she has been a Distinguished Professor – the highest professorship of the French Government at the University of Lorraine. She was the Director of the Research Center for Theoretical and Applied Informatics at the University of Metz (University of Lorraine) from the beginning of 2008 to the end of 2017. In July, 2013 she was awarded the Order “Ordre des Palmes Académiques ” by the French Government – National award for scholars and figures who have made great contributions in the field of Culture and Education. Prof. DSc. Le Thi Hoai An main research areas are Optimization and Data Science, especially in Machine Learning (theory, algorithms, and applications in many different fields). She has participated in the French – Vietnamese Master’s program and having scientific cooperation with numerous universities and research institutes in Vietnam.
Achievements:
– Prof. DSc. Le Thi Hoai An has published more than 280 scientific papers in the field of Optimal Mathematics and Data Science, including 140 articles published in international scientific journals, technology transfer projects for many large industrial firms. She also has successfully advised for 35 doctorates and 4 doctors of science; Prof. DSc. Le Thi Hoai An’s scientific record was evaluated as exceptional by the Council with a score of 29/30.
– In 2021, Prof. DSc. Science Le Thi Hoai An is the first researcher in France and the second Vietnamese (after Prof. Hoang Tuy in 2011) to receive the prestigious International Mathematical Prize “Constantine Carathéodory”
