On August 13, 2024, the International School hosted a seminar to seek advice from experts on developing a scientific journal that meets international standards. The seminar featured leading experts in various fields, including Prof. Dr. Nguyen Duc Khuong, a globally renowned young economist; Prof. Dr. Ho Tu Bao, an expert in artificial intelligence, machine learning, data mining, and digital transformation; Prof. Dr. Le Quoc Hoi, former editor-in-chief of the Journal of Economics and Development at the National Economics University.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Dinh-Vice Rector delivered the opening speech at the seminar

In his opening speech, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Dinh emphasized, “Developing and advancing a scientific journal that meets international standards is a key priority in the School’s development plan for the coming period. This task is crucial for enhancing the research capabilities of our staff and faculty, promoting international publication activities within the School, and strengthening our partnerships and connections with a global network of reputable scientists and experts.”

Prof. Dr. Le Quoc Hoi talked at the seminar.

The International School’s scientific journal should be designed from the outset to use  English in line with international practices. Its name should have an international appeal, clearly reflect its field of focus, and be distinctive to avoid overlap with existing journals in the WoS and Scopus databases. The journal must adhere to the core standards of WoS and Scopus and be linked to the online platform of a reputable international publisher.

Prof. D.r Le Quoc Hoi’s presentation captured the interest of the attendees

During the seminar, experts shared a wealth of valuable insights with the School. Prof. Dr. Le Quoc Hoi advised that, to develop a scientific journal meeting international standards, the School should clearly define the journal’s vision and internationalization goals, attracting high-quality submissions by inviting reputable experts and lecturers, organizing seminars and conferences, establishing a prestigious editorial board, leveraging the expertise of board members, and rigorously adhering to the peer review and editing processes.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Duc Khuong emphasized the importance of naming the journal.

With extensive experience in publishing, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Duc Khuong highlighted the importance of the journal’s name, noting that it should reflect pioneering and cutting-edge research areas to attract high-quality submissions. “In my opinion, the International School should collaborate with a reputable global publisher and invite internationally renowned editors-in-chief to lead the journal. This will establish international credibility for the journal from the outset,” suggested Prof. Dr. Nguyen Duc Khuong.

Prof. Dr. Tran Xuan Tu, Director of the Information Technology Institute at VNU-HN, noted that important factors for ensuring the journal’s credibility include adhering to publication timelines, maintaining a transparent peer review process, balancing the number of domestic and foreign authors and editors, and avoiding conflicts of interest between groups.

Experts and Scientist exchanged ideas

Regarding the development roadmap, the experts emphasized that the development of the journal must be carried out methodically, with a clear strategy and specific plans for each stage. It is essential to be determined and persistent, avoiding impatience and rushing through the process.
