On May 10, 2024, International School, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) organized a workshop on building labs for training programs in the Engineering – Technology field. The workshop aimed to gather input from experts, scientists, and business representatives on establishing labs to support Engineering – Technology training programs.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Dinh hopes that through this workshop, VNU-IS will receive useful contributions to the proposal for building labs.
In Engineering – Technology disciplines, practice plays a crucial role, enabling students to apply learned knowledge to real-world situations, understand the operating principles of equipment and machinery in their field, and hone their skills to work and adapt flexibly in actual conditions. Moreover, practical training helps students develop essential soft skills such as teamwork, communication, and time management, as well as gain experience by working directly with lecturers and industry experts.
The proposal development team presents the practical lab concept of the International School.
“Understanding the importance of practical training for students, VNU-IS has always prioritized the integration of theoretical and practical training. The school has a special focus on building laboratories and practical workshops for learners, including labs and workshops for groups applying information technology in business and digital finance; smart systems in industrial logistics and automation; information security and cybersecurity labs. This allows students to practice on equipment and machinery similar to those used in the corporate environment, a significant advantage for students to quickly adapt when entering the labor market,” shared Vice Rector Nguyen Van Dinh in his opening remarks. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Dinh also hopes that through this workshop, VNU-IS will receive many useful contributions to the proposal for building practical labs.
Experts attending the workshop appreciate International School’s efforts in building labs for students.
The workshop attendees listened to the presentation on the proposal for building practical labs for the Engineering – Technology training programs. These labs are designed based on real working environments, meeting the operational criteria that businesses are currently applying. Students will be guided by lecturers to consolidate their knowledge foundation, while businesses will accompany them to enhance practical skills and professional competencies. Through this, they will accumulate experience even while still in school. In the labs, students are exposed to real-world problems posed by businesses; lecturers lead student groups through appropriate workflows to complete projects and achieve the best results. Besides practical experience, students can also develop soft skills, attitudes, and responsibilities towards their work. When interning and entering the professional working environment, they can immediately engage in work processes as required by the companies.
Attendees also made recommendations to help International School establish a standard practical lab.
The labs are built, operated, and upgraded annually to effectively serve the learning, teaching, and scientific research needs of students, learners, and lecturers at the school. After listening to the proposal presentation, experts and business representatives contributed many useful suggestions for the school’s practical labs. They highly appreciated the school’s efforts to build practical labs for students and pointed out several aspects to focus on during the establishment and management of these labs. The School hopes to continue to receive support and collaboration from experts in building and perfecting practical labs for students in the Engineering – Technology disciplines. after this workshop
