That’s the directive from Associate Professor Dr. Le Trung Thanh – the President of the university at the Conference on the Assessment of the English Preparatory Program’s Results for the academic year 2022-2023 and the Plan for implementing the program for the academic year 2023-2024. Attending the conference were Dr. Nguyen Quang Thuan – Vice President, representatives of the leadership of the affiliated units, and the faculty of the Department of Applied Linguistics.
In his directive at the conference, Associate Professor Dr. Le Trung Thanh emphasized that the English preparatory program has a 20-year history, since the establishment of the International Department. Therefore, the training program needs to have its own characteristics, bearing the distinct colors and identity of VNU-IS.
Rector Le Trung Thanh has shown special interest in the English Preparatory Program.
Rector Le Trung Thanh desires that the English Preparatory Program of the university will establish a position not only within Hanoi National University but also among the community of universities nationwide and internationally. He envisions that when discussing language training programs, the program offered by the International School will be among the top in terms of quality. Therefore, Associate Professor Le Trung Thanh has directed the Department of Applied Linguistics to invest more in the program, invite proficient foreign and Vietnamese lecturers to participate in teaching, and update the curriculum framework. The President of the International School hopes that in the new academic year, the English Preparatory Program will shine even more brightly with the implementation of innovative and modern teaching methods.
Also, at the Conference on the Evaluation of the English Preparatory Program for the academic year 2022-2023 and the Plan for the academic year 2023-2024, participants discussed and contributed many valuable insights to the development of the program. They shared experiences and teaching methods to help students enhance their language proficiency as soon as possible.

The English preparatory program at the International School, VNU-Hanoi is designed with 5 levels (from Level 1 to Level 5) to equip students with language knowledge, practical skills in listening, speaking, reading, writing so that students have enough skills to study undergraduate and postgraduate programs at the International School or have the ability to pass international language certificates such as Level 4 Language Certificate (according to the 6-level language proficiency framework used in Vietnam), IELTS, TOEFL… for studying abroad.
Representatives of the leadership of the units also contributed their opinions to the English preparatory program. With a team of experienced instructors, proficient in preparing for English certificates, a scientific and rigorous quality management process, support from mentors who are proficient English students, and the environment of the International School, in recent years, the percentage of students passing the B2 certificate after 2 semesters (intakes) has been increasing. Most students have obtained the B2 certificate after 1 year of pre-English study, even though many students had zero English proficiency at the beginning and had to start from the Foundation course.
The participants of the program also extend their congratulations on the Traditional Day of the International School on July 24, 2023.
