Lương Trí Đức, a first-year student majoring in Business Data Analysis at the International School – Vietnam National University, Hanoi, excellently won the second prize in the Star Awards 2023 English competition for students, which was held on December 2, 2023.

Through three rounds of competition – an online multiple-choice test, cluster semifinals, and cluster finals in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Hue, Thai Nguyen, and Can Tho – the organizing committee selected the 18 most outstanding contestants representing the six clusters to continue competing in the national finals.
In the final round of the competition, the top 6 teams from clusters across the country competed in three segments: Greetings, Conquest, and Courage. In the Courage segment, teams randomly chose opponents to debate on a topic related to “Vietnamese Youth and Cyberspace” set by the organizers. The team with the highest score was crowned the champion of the Star Awards 2023, receiving a cash prize of 40 million Vietnamese dong and various gifts from the sponsor, Wilmar CLV Group.
The contestants are preparing for the “Courage” segment of the competition.
According to representatives from the jury, which comprised esteemed experts nationwide, the competing teams, including many outstanding individuals, demonstrated confidence, social understanding, and proficiency in English. They inspired and spread among students the urgency and necessity of continuously improving and developing foreign language skills, particularly English.
Lương Trí Đức, the runner-up of the competition, shared, “I learned many skills and knowledge about cybersecurity and teamwork. I was also delighted to meet peers from other clusters. After going through all three rounds, I feel that Star Awards is indeed a great platform for improving English and connecting with young people. The most memorable experience for me was the debate segment in the national final round. I have participated in debate competitions before, but each time on stage brings something special. Star Awards was truly an amazing experience for me.”

In the final results, the first prize was awarded to the team from the Hue cluster, the second prize went to the team from the Hanoi cluster, the third prize was given to the Can Tho cluster, and the encouragement prizes were won by teams from the Thai Nguyen, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang clusters.
In 2023, the Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) assigned the organization of the Star Awards 2023 English competition to the International School. In its 11th year, the competition truly created a national platform for language learning exchange among students. In the online round, the Star Awards 2023 English competition attracted over 79,000 participants from 183 universities, colleges, and academies across the country. Each cluster saw more than 8,000 contestants, with the Ho Chi Minh City National University cluster leading with 20,473 participants. This was followed by the VNU Hanoi cluster, which had 14,654 contestants.
The contestants visited the Temple of Literature – Quoc Tu Giam.

The Star Awards 2023 English competition for students has helped them reinforce their social knowledge and enhance their understanding of cyberspace. This, in turn, contributes to raising students’ awareness of the importance of foreign languages in their studies and in accessing future job opportunities.
